Statistics – 2007
· Provided direct services to 829 victims of domestic violence: 820 women, 9 men
· 170 were under the age of 30, 580 between 30-44, 72 between 45-64, and 7 over 65
· 153 children attended the Children’s Program
· 564 children were affected by violence in their homes
· Assisted in filing 97 Orders for Protection and 19 Harassment Restraining Orders
· Attended 172 court hearings; assisted victims in 55 court-related matters
· Provided transportation to 138 victims, 244 trips
· Accompanied 76 victims to various appointments, including lawyers, social services, and clinics, etc.
· Provided safe housing to 18 women and children (9 women and 9 children)
· 136 women attended weekly support groups in Hibbing, Virginia, and Ely
· 188 people attended abuser education classes (182 men and 6 women)
· 76 presentations were given, reaching 2,660 people
· Received 322 law enforcement contacts
· Made 492 referrals to various agencies
Safety is always the first concern when doing advocacy.
Advocates offer options. It is the decision of the victim to choose which option is best for them.
